Stage 10. Clifden to Leenane

Ok, we don’t say this lightly, this is possibly our favourite route along the Wild Atlantic Way… it is breathtakingly beautiful leaving Clifden out the Sky Road, this headland is just amazing and there is no better way to enjoy it than on the bike.

The views across the bay, the scenery, the landscape and the small islands that are accessible when the tide is out makes this a magical start to a beautiful stage. We turn around the headland and take the low road around the bay, across the narrow bay is our next headland of Omey Island and Cleggan.

A short left turn takes us across the beach road and then onto Moyard and a welcome Coffee break in Letterfrack before heading out along the Connemara Loop and into Tully.

Lunch in Tully will give us time to soak up the last few hours on the bike and prepare for the 2nd half of the day taking us into Tullycross along the amazing Atlantic coast road and downhill to lough Fee (magical).

We re-join the Clifden – Leenane road, this quiet road passes along the beautiful Connemara bog with flowers, plants and more sheep to keep us entertained.

Finally, with a few kilometres to go to Leenane we arrive at the top on Killary Harbour, a short downhill spin to Leenane takes us to our overnight stay in the beautifully located Hotel Leenane. It doesn’t get any better!
